Incidents of post-uprising violence have taken place in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj following the student uprising on August 5 this year. On Thursday, August 8, attacks were carried out in several areas of the upazila by activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and local student groups. They allegedly vandalized and looted the houses of Awami League leaders and workers and physically assaulted several individuals.

At around 2:00 PM that day, a group of attackers stormed the house of Mohsin Reza, former vice president of Munshiganj District Chhatra League, in Ichhapura village under Ichhapura Union. The attackers demanded to know the whereabouts of Md. Masud Jamadar, organizational secretary of the Awami League’s Jainshar Union unit. When Mohsin refused to provide information, they brutally assaulted him.

Mohsin sustained severe head injuries, including deep cuts and multiple bruises across his body. Locals later rescued him and admitted him to the upazila health complex.

Around 3:30 PM the same day, another attack took place at Masud Jamadar’s shop in Ichhapura Bazaar. The assailants beat him severely, causing deep cuts and injuries to his waist, legs, and chest. They also vandalized his shop and looted goods and valuables.

Most of the attackers are reported to be activists of Jamaat-e-Islami. Later that afternoon, around 4:00 PM and again at about 5:30 PM, further attacks were reported in the Madhyapara and Syedpur areas under Rajanagar Union, where several Awami League activists were injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals, according to reports.

The family of victim Mohsin Reza has filed an oral complaint with Sirajdikhan Police Station. However, according to Mohsin’s younger brother, Al Amin, they were unable to submit a written complaint because no police officers were present at the time.

“They vandalized our home,” said Al Amin. “The attackers asked my brother about Masud Jamadar’s whereabouts in Jainshar. When he refused to tell them, they beat him mercilessly, injuring his head and other parts of his body. We went to the police station to file a complaint, but since no police were there, we reported the incident verbally to the army.”
